Burj Khalifa – The World’s Tallest Building

Over Christmas and the new year Rhys’ sister joined us in Dubai and we thought what better way to kick off a new year than at the top of the world’s tallest building at 830m high; the Burj Khalifa! We decided to book a time which we thought would allow us to see the sunset so we booked our tickets for “At The Top” for 4:30pm. This gave us plenty of time to walk around the Burj Khalifa observation deck, taking in the views and snapping away before trying to secure a good spot to watch the sunset. One thing we have noticed while living in Dubai is that once the sun sets it gets dark very quickly but when you’re up there waiting patiently for the sun to set it seems to take forever! Did you know that apparently you can watch the sunset twice in one day in Dubai? This certainly wouldn’t be possible from the “At The Top” observation deck because there is so much queuing  involved before you actually get up there I am sure you’d miss your second chance of watching the sunset unless you have a private lift to your own apartment! Below are a few snaps of the Burj Khalifa and from the observation deck.

Top tips for visiting the Burj Khalifa observation deck?

  • Aim for a time during the day or around sunset so you can see the city in daylight and by night, I wouldn’t recommend visiting only during night time.
  • Prepare for queuing: you will queue for your tickets, security check, queue to join another queue before riding in the world’s fastest elevator and eventually when you want to come back down you’ll queue again.
  • Get a marina view spot: claim a spot by the windows looking towards the Marina and JBR so you can enjoy a clear view of the sunset.
